Essential Tools and Ingredients

To embark on your journey of crafting cocktail syrups, gather a few essential tools and ingredients. When selecting ingredients, opt for fresh fruits, herbs, and spices to infuse vibrant flavors into your syrups.

A good start includes a saucepan, stirring spoon, fine-mesh strainer, funnel and quality glass bottles for storage.

Good quality glass bottles can be stored in the fridge without cracking and washed in a dishwasher. It saves you a lot of time on washing sticky bottles by hand. I also use plastic squeeze bottles that make it easier to measure syrup when I can simply squeeze it into a jigger.

This helps eliminate the sticky mess of syrup dripping down a bottle when pouring it. These bottles are ideal when you have to make a batch of drinks instead of one.

Pro Tip

When you are adding a syrup to your cocktail remember that you’re adding sugar. Always taste your cocktail before serving to ensure you balance the sweetness with something sour or bitter. A squeeze of lime or lemon juice might be all you need to balance a cocktail that’s too sweet.
